インド探検・パッタマンガラム村のメインストリート Street View of Village in Tamil-Nadu IE Sketch 04
邦題＝「インド探検・パッタマンガラム村のメインストリート」。
パッタマンガラムPATTAMANGALAMは、マドゥライの東南東約80キロにある 小さな村。
僕はこの地に約１年間滞在して、たくさんのスケッチを描きました。
村のメインストリートには、
雑貨屋、自転車屋、宝くじ屋、スナック屋、鍛冶屋、茶屋、穀物屋、レストランなどが軒 をならべ、
村の人々が集まってくつろいでいます。
子供たちや犬、ロバ、鶏、牛車なども、いつもその場所に佇んで華をそえてくれます。
（横に長い絵なので、フラッシュでスクロールしてみましたが、少々コマ落ちしていますね）

木に登っている少年は、牛車使いです。
彼のまなざしの彼方には、どんな夢が映っているのでしょうか。
最後のゾウの絵は、パッタマンガラム村で製造しているマッチ箱のラベルデザインです。
BGMは、前半は「Incredible India」のテーマ。
後半は、A.R. Rahmanによる1999年公開のタミル映画「Padayappa」のテーマ曲。
とてものどかで美しいメロディですね。
PATTAMANGALAMとは、タミル語で「枯れた女たちの里」という意味。
僕は『枯れた女たちの里』で、『光』を観た。
南インドの乾燥地域にある「ひからびた村」は、
いつしか僕のなかで
『光らびた村』となった。

PATTAMANGALAM is a small village that exists in the southeast by east about 80 kilos of Madurai.
I stayed on this ground for about one year, and drew a lot of sketches.
PATTAMANGALAM means it by Tamil, that is, "Hometowns of withering women".
To the Main Street in the village..
general shop.. bicycle shop, the lottery shop,
the snack shop, the blacksmith, the coffee shop, and the mials restaurant, etc.
display eaves, and people in the village are relaxing because they gather.

The last elephant's picture is
a label design of the matchbox manufactured in the PATTAMANGALAM village.
In BGM, the first half is a theme of "Incredible India".
The latter half is a tune of the theme of Tamilian movie "Padayappa" of opening in 1999 by A.R. Rahman to the public.
It is a very throat and a beautiful melody.
